Do you have a dog, bird, dish or cat? If so, buy three or four different brands of pet food and do an experiment to test the brand of food that your pet prefers.

The "question" in science is called a hypothesis. Picking a good hypothesis is an important start, but you will need to conduct one or more experiments to prove/disprove your hypothesis then come up with some conclusions. Your experiments should be kept in writing. Start a notebook now.
Be aware that most schools do not allow live animals in science fairs, so if you do something with animals you will have to use photos and text.
Some hypotheses you might use:
* Do goldfish avoid bright light?
* Do toads prefer flies over worms?
How could you do the experiment?
A source of science materials can be found online at Carolina Biological Supplies:

Hope this helps!

When I was in 7th grade, for the science fair we did an experiment to see which Raisin cereal had the most raisins in it.
We bought a bunch of boxes of Raisin brans, different brands and types, and just sat there and counted all the raisins in them.

Try this link,
http://www.science-fair.org/src/choosing.html
It has a 4 step process that helps you to narrow down your topic and then apply it to a project.
There are a ton of links out there. This one has a list of links to project ideas based on your area of interest.

My two cents? Choose something that is interesting to you, won't cost a lot in materials, and allows you to learn a scientific principle that you can name. i.e. Bornoulli's Principal
