Why exactly do people do this?

Question

There is one of your favourite pop icons staying in a famous London hotel.You arrive at the hotel at 8am and you are still there at 6pm, could be longer,waiting to catch a glimpse. From the kerb to the hotel entrance its about 15 feet.Is your icon likely to do do a set on the street, not likely, so why do people spend their entire day doing nothing but wait outside? WHY?

many years ago Paul mcartney was playing liverpool.there where hundreds of fans outside his hotel&as many security.i calmly walked to the door of the hotel&said to the security dont you know who the **** i am.they let me in once in i got in the lift&pressed every button.the lift stopped on every floor exept the 3rd.i got out on the forth walked down the fire escape &enterd pauls party i stayed untill six am&still have contact with him the wait was worthwhile.
