The only way to know for sure is to go to the hospital and get an x-ray. It is possible to have limited motion with a break depending on the severity. Regardless of the status (broken vs. sprained- both are treated the same way for a finger), you'd most likely be fitted with a splint and given anti-inflammitories like ibuprofen. You'll also probably be told to keep it elevated and use ice for the first 48 hours. Hope the pain subsides for you whether you decide to go in or treat at home!

if you can bend it completely then no it's not broken. you might have just sprained it pretty bad. you can buy a splint to prevent from hitting on things. you should get one because you have no idea how much you use that finger until you hurt it.

get well soon!

You might just have bruised the bone or knocked the joint out and back in again. You wouldn't be bending it if it was broken.
