I've just moved into a new apt. about 40 miles south of where I used to live. Before I never had a problem with dry skin, but now it's almost as if the water doesn't get all the soap off. It's really kinda wierd. I think it's soft water, but I'm not sure. I know the water at my old place was hard water and it rinsed the soap off just fine. Any thoughts?

If you have a water softener, it tends to feel like you cannot rinse off all of the soap.

Due to some chemistry, that I don't really understand, soft water has a reduced ability to combine with the soap film on your body, which makes it much more difficult to rinse off (as compared to “hard water”).

Using less soap or switching to liquid body soap makes a difference.

In-between regeneration (when the softener re-charges itself) the water may seem to work well. However, immediately after regeneration, the water may be "extra soft" and thus less effective for removing soap. If it is difficult to remove soap all of the time, it may be a sign of over regeneration and over softening.
