Knight Incident Overshadows Victory
Texas Tech Coach Has History of Similar Behavior
AP Sports
LUBBOCK, Texas (Nov. 14) - As Bob Knight moved one win closer to catching Dean Smith, his temper flared once again, when he used his hand to push a player's chin during a timeout, as if to make him look the coach in the eye.

With more than 4 minutes to go in Texas Tech's 86-74 victory over Gardner-Webb on Monday night, Red Raiders forward Michael Prince was called for a foul. During the ensuing timeout, Knight approached Prince, and as the player lowered his head, the coach made contact with his chin.

Knight gave a brief statement at the postgame news conference then answered one question before exiting the room. The incident with Prince was never addressed.

It was win No. 871 for Knight, who is five away from passing Adolph Rupp for second place on the all-time list. He needs nine more victories to surpass Smith for the most wins in Division I history.

Who cares what kind of coach he is, he has always been a first class abusive/sadistic coach.

great? NO good? probable so for a 12 months and then the grumbling will initiate returned. Tennessee followers that needed coach Fulmer long gone could rather be careful approximately what they want for. Can Leach recruit extra helpful then Fulmer? Tennessee has a great custom and the terrific centers yet ............... the foremost will nonetheless be getting youthful men 17 to 19 years old to %. Knoxville over southern California and the sea coast, Florida and the night existence and Texas and the proximity to homestead. actual Tennessee has an rather vulnerable extreme college soccer application and would not produce the common of athletes that are contemporary in Texas, Florida and California and so as that they could persuade those youthful men to go away homestead and kinfolk to come again to Tennessee. i'm afraid a mistake grew to become into made in the forcing out of coach Fulmer and it is going to improve into very obvious in the arriving years. EDIT: 'way Smarter Than You' Meyer's unfold grew to become into no longer useful in the SEC without Tebow. It did no longer paintings with an surprising quarterback, Chris Leak. Tim Tebows come around purely a pair of cases in an entire life and without that kind the unfold would not paintings in the SEC. If the quarterback can no longer furnish a harder blow then he's taking he won't final 0.5 a season working the unfold or study selection in the SEC.

Bobby Knight is one of the best basketball coaches in all of NCAA. He just has temper flares sometimes when his guys dont do what Knight expects them to do and he gets mad. the old man is a very good coach and will be at texas tech for a while even after all these years but i dont think that they will ever win the NCAA championship.

He is both. You can't have that many wins without being a good coach. However, he has anger management issues, big time. I wonder if you know he coaches Basketball and not Football. (That's the category of the question).

Knight is an excellent coach. Give it up already, the kid said it isn't that serious! He didn't take it personally. People wait for Knight to "explode". Then they blow it up. Seems to me like this incident has already been looked past. I'd let him smack me under the chin like a dog if he coached me....he's that damn good!

This is a FOOTBALL Q/A...try putting this in BASKETBALL since Bobby Knight coaches BASKETBALL.

And the answer to your question is that he's both a great coach and a loose cannon.

Bobby Knight is a crazy person! And that poor kid's parents are crazy, too, if they think it OK for him to slap their kid just because it's Bobby Knight! Just because he's a basketball coach doesn't mean he can hit people and throw things. They teach that in preschool. Why doesn't it apply to Bobby Knight?!?

I have heard he is not as bad as he seems on the court sometimes. He is an old style get in your face coach with plenty of attitude. And he wins.
