I wish there was a way the oil companies could come up with an alternative fuel that would make oil obsolete. I say this not as tree huggin' liberal....I would just love to see the middle east run out of money, and hence much of the money to terrorism would be cut off. Ohhhh, one can dream.

Actually there are several alternative fuel sources available.

Hydorgen, natural gas, pure ethanol, biodeisel, etc. Even electric cars!

As long as the big oil companies have so much power, you won't be seeing any of these alternatives used by the masses.

The oil companies have no incentive to do so. As long as they control the fuel sources, they remain in power, and thus get rich.

There are many alternatives. We've had the technology for fuel cell (electric) cars for over a decade. Top speed 60mph, runs for about two hours per charge. Perfect for commuters and local errands. Recharge out of your house electric plug. Many parking garages even offered free recharging for commuters.

But the oil companise bought up the patents and shut down the production facilities. Why? Because these cars threatened their monopoly on control over the energy market.

how can you say they wouldnt give it up if they had it? whatever the system used it still has to be distributed and the oil companies already have that available nationwide. Who else would distribute this technology? That is obviously absurd
