True story. A few months ago I was hospitalized for a kidney infection. I had no health insurance at the time, my work does not cover me. I was told by the hospital that I could apply for medical aid to help pay the bill. I recieved a phone call just yesterday informing me that I was declined any aid. What they told me was appalling, the reason I could not get any aid was because I'm not a drug addict or an alcoholic, unmarried mother with two or more kids, a refugee, and yes an illegal alien!! I have been working since I was 15 and paying taxes ever since, I never applied for any kind of government aid in my life, this one time that I would have really needed it, the government slapped me in the face. Do you think it is better I renounce my citizenship? The medical claims office informed me illegals get all kinds of aid, no questions asked. Do you think this is fair? I have been contact my local and state government to complain, I recomend it to all legal tax payers out there

Go call your local medical assisantance office, they will tell you, they gave me all those reasons so I would know as to why I was declined for it. FYI, PA is the worst state for doing it.

I would also note that as of now I have a great job, no insurance but it pays well enough for me to buy my own, which I do, I'm just saying at that time I did not have any, and just wanting some aid not all of it to be paid, I was turned down. You would think for all the tax money I put into the system, this one time I could be helped out at least a little with the bill!

Middleclass, I agree. But I also mentioned other categories not just illegals, its no ones fault but the government. Just thinkk of those girls who go on maury who tested ten guys to be the father and still no dice, they are legal citizens leeching off the government and using children at the same time. Legal or non, its not right for the majority of working class citizens to get slapped in the face like this.

I'm so sorry for you. That really REALLY is soooo unfair and quite scary. I don't have health insurance (because its soooo expensive) and this scares me.

I don't know if it still exists, but there used to be something called Medical Share of Cost. It was a type of coverage for working people who didn't have insurance, and it was based on how much moey you made. They would figure out how much they thought you could afford to pay of your medical costs each month and they covered anything over that amount. Another thing that you might want to check out is most hospitals have programs for people without insurance, where they will cover your bill if you can't afford to pay it. Try calling the billing department at the hospital, I'm sure that they can suggest a direction for you to go in.

That's the system, unless you are totally dependant on the system, you get the shaft.
It's never made any sense to me, but it seems to be the way it works.
If you simply refuse to work, refuse to finish school, refuse to use birth control, refuse to take any personal responsibility at all, they'll support you.
But a working person who runs into an unexpected situation like that, you're left out in the cold.
In many case's, bankruptcy is the only way out.

that sucks! what a load of bull!! been there when my husband broke his arm!!! wasn't hoping for much but everyone knows the hospital will rip you a new one especially if you cant afford insurance!!!! there are some things America could really do better on!!
Its still not the illegal immigrants fault that our politicians want to treat them better than American citizens. Another slap in the face is that Americans voted them in.

Why have you not applied for citizenship? This is a gamble those take when they don't have medical insurance. Medical insurance is not cheap, but a necessity. If your job doesn't offer it, purchase it through a private company or look for a better job with benefits.
I am not questioning your work ethic/morals, but you can't expect someone else to front the bill because you have never asked for anything before.

Depending on your filing status, and other relevant facts, you may be able to claim the expense of the hospital treatment on your taxes as a special itemized deduction.

No, it is not fair...
It is a disgrace...
The US should deport all illegal aliens and seal the border..
Our President is sworn to this duty..
No President since D.W.Eisenhower has enforced this obligation.

I think your anger is misdirected. The problem is our healthcare system. It won't suddenly get better if the borders were closed tomorrow-you'd still have the same problem.
