Sometimes you have to make them, trust me she's hungry and eventually she'll get the idea. It's hard, I know. But just hang in there and make her do it.

some babys haven't figured out how to suckle yet. before you feed her use your pinkie and put it in her mouth and that teaches her how to suck. also massage your breast a little till you leak some milk out then rub it on your nipple area so there is a taste of it there. hold her in a football hold, so her feet are near your back. at that age you should hold the breast so there isn't a chance of her not sucking right, also so she doesn't gag. if your breast are to engorged she probably won't suck. god this is so hard to explain. do you have a breast pump, mine came with instructions and they helped. the nurse at the hospital should of helped you with this and made sure she was latching on properly. some babys just aren't interested in the breast feeding. try giving her a little formula in a bottle first so she know's its time to eat. that might help. other than all that i don't know how else to answer that. good luck, and she will get it eventually. oh there are other ways to hold her also. like the football hold or just lay her across your chest. find a way that is comfortable for both you and the baby. I was also told if i wasn't relaxed then the baby won't be relaxed or ready to feed.

My daughter had latching problems. I had inverted nipples, which made it a lot harder for her as well as her having poor tongue control. We got with a lactation consultant and she helped us out. I had to use a nipple shield (looks kinda like a nipple on a bottle) that went over my nipple and helped her latch on. Then, after a few minutes, we'd remove it and she'd keep eating. But, you have to see a lactation consultant to use it because it can cause a decrease in milk supply and that's not what you want right now

Don't give up!!
A friend of mine had a hard time with her first as well and called her neighbor (mom of 3) crying! She helped her and ended up successfully breastfeeding her 3 kids!!
Call the hospital where you delivered and ask to speak with a lactation consultant or go to the next La Leche League meeting in your area. Or call a friend who has breast fed.
You can do this!! It is the greatest gift you can give her.
Good luck and congrats!!

First and foremost have patience. Have you tried any different positions? There is the cradle, cross cradle, and the football hold. Try a "boppy" to help raise her up. You can contact a lactation cosultant thru the hospital or the local WIC office. Also ask friends or relatives that have nursed. Or try the la leche league.

Get some hands on help with a lactation consultant from the hospital. Be patient and please don't give up. It's very frustrating at first, but stay calm as baby senses your anxiousness. If she's too upset, just give her your finger to suck on first, then express some milk on her mouth. Tickle her mouth with your nipple until her mouth is WIDE open, and I mean wide open, then -sounds mean-but push her head onto you...don't bring your breast to her. Line up your nipple with her nose. It's so hard to explain, someone needs to be there to show you. Persevere, you'll both get the hang of it soon. Good LUck.

sometimes babys freek out to fast. try just holding her for a minute. if she gets upset she will not be able to concentrate on latching on. She will eventually get it though. keep the pasifiers away, they can be your worst nightmare. Give it a few more tries, and if nothing workd then call your ped. or doctor. they should both be able to give you phone # to a lactation specialist. good luck and relax. If she is not trying at all then she may not be hungary.

you can try getting a breast pump if u still wanna give her breast milk and giving her the milk in a bottle that worked for my best friend whose baby wouldnt latch on at all and when he did he would bite n she could deal with the pain so try that if u really want to give her breast milk.. good luck!

You might want to call a lactation consultant or attend a breastfeeding class.
