They hiss sounds like air leaking from a bike tire, the whistle very light or maybe even a light squeak from a pulley or something, however that wouldn't explain the hiss. Any ideas? V8 5.0L in case you need to know.

this sounds like a vaccum leak. and if you can hear it while sitting in the car with the windows up..it's probably a vaccum line inside the car perhaps going to the heater/ac controls.

Open the hood...if it's that loud you should be able to locate it easily just by looking and listening. Get a can of carburator cleaner...spray it around all the vaccum lines....when the engine picks up then you have found the location of the leak...if it's under the hood. Please do not do this on the inside of the vehicle if you suspect the leak to be in the dash...this will only cause problems. If you determine it's not under the hood and inside the car...you can most likely find the problem visually and audibly.

Hope this helps.

this could be a number of things

serpentine belt might need a little dressing to quite it
pulley could be in need of a dab of grease
radiator has sprung a leak and coolant is hissing out of it
vacum line broke
intake tube craked

If your radiator is bad then eventually your car will begin to run hot

Vacum line and intake tube crack will effect its ablity to run smoothly

Need a little more information than you hear a hiss. Engines and cars themselves make a lot of hissing noises as part of thier normal operation. Also check radiator hoses for punctures

i have a couple of questions for you...

Is the radio on when you hear this noise..it is a common problem for all makes and models of vehicles that over time you may have 2 wires touching and making this kind of noise which goes up and down depending on engine idle speed..

Also have you just done some exhaust work done to it..sometimes you might get a muffler that will get this kind of noise...

If it is not something like this then move on to a belt or pulley..then vacuum hose

sounds like a vaccum hose leak, check around engine bay while car is running and see if you can find the whistling noise and replace the hose or if you think it is a belt get a glass of water and pour the water over the belts while it is running and see if the noise goes away.

could be a defective starter/ solinoid.. If it grew to become into the alternator, the automobile might initiate the warning lighting fixtures could be on the sprint all of the time and the 1st signes could be as your using alongside the radio wouold fade out, then the automobile might decrease out and no ability in any respect...then you definately wait and the battery might get well, and the automobile might restart.. yet might purely run for a shorter distance. each night you will possibly could recharge the battery and in the morning the automobile might initiate first time every time. So i think of adjusting the alt grew to become right into a waist of pennies. consistent with threat in case you are able to upload if the automobile actuatly turns over once you place the foremost in and attempt to initiate it.. or if each little thing is lifeless?, whilst the engine wont initiate- does the radio paintings great?. If it grew to become right into a gas pump i might think of it would turn over and slutter to existence with what's in the carb/injection equipment

This is normal. It usually happens with engines that begin to become old and out of age. Take it to a ford dealer, maybe they can renew the engine or maybe just fix the sound.
