I don't understand how this war is doing such, since we don't need massive output from factories, and in turn the factories need to hire more workers. Am I missing something that would make this war help the economy?

That idea formed when WW!! sped up the recovery from the great depression. War causes an increase in government expenditures and has increased the national debt, which evenually could lead to higher taxes, then there is interest rates, to curb inflation, and thus recession following the war

I guess you don't pay any attention to the many contracts that were signed by the government for billions of dollars of goods...

also all those bullets that they shoot... someone has to make them... all the humvees, tanks, helicopters have to be replaced much more often when they are used constantly... and all the parts need to be replaced too...

and people have to make those things... and they get paid to make those things (and pay taxes, and buy more products)... and the stock prices of the companies that make those things go up because their earnings are up...

I guess my question is... where are you getting the idea that we're not using anything in the war?

where is the government spending those billions that they have appropriated to the war then?

EDIT: exactly how is it not helping the economy like past wars?

you say that, but you don't say why?

factories have been built and have hired workers... maybe not near you... but that doesn't mean it's not being done...

in fact many workers have also been hired to go over to Iraq and build over there, which they will be bringing a large amount of their income back here after they are done...

War is just one way of "boosting a country's economy".

Basically, after ever major conflict there is a need to rebuild a country's infrastructure. This means more people need to be hired, more goods need to be manufactured.

Houses, hospitals and factories need to be re-built (due to bomb damage), roads need to be repaired.

There is also the human costs. Wars help reduce the population.

If you could wipe out 2 million workers from across the USA, then you would need to recruit another 2 million to replace them. This lowers the unemployment figures and reduces state handouts.

In the case of a conflict like Iraq, many US/UK companies have been awarded contracts to rebuilt the country.

Roads, sewerage systems, communication links, houses, factories, hospitals and schools, all have to by rebuilt by some one.

Replacement goods (cars, fridges, tv's) all have to be manufactured abroad and imported until such times as Iraq can manufacture it own again.

Sad to say it, but after every major conflict there tends to be a economic upsurge.

However, as I stated in my opening line - war is only ONE way of helping the economy. There are other easier ways of achieving the same result without resorting to war, hence the reason as to why countries aren't in a permanent state of war with one another.

look at each and all of the jobs being interior the militia creates or the encompassing areas of a militia base. militia bases carry a huge style of jobs particularly for small cities. Clerical, provider, sport all created in volume. If the backside is slow there are much less jobs while busy greater jobs open up. in addition they have an impression on the encompassing areas bringing money to businesses and the individuals who artwork in those institutions. to illustrate: keeping lodge rooms while they could ideally be vacant. Jobs created via maintaince and development of conflict machines or the militia base itself. money runs wild in the time of a conflict the financial gadget booms. The unemployment fee decreases and each physique can placed the money they earn returned into the financial gadget via purely happening your community save. it is likewise why there's a recession after a conflict ends. There are actually not any jobs with the aid of fact there is no longer something to construct, safeguard, sense or entertain. A conflict is a momentary enhance interior the financial gadget, however the unhappy area it that the only way for the financial gadget to stay this way is to proceed on with conflict.

That's because this is not a War !!! It's an armed military conflict. "war on terror" is just media hype terminology to stir us mere mortals up into a frenzy.... how that spin is working !!!!!

War (and take note, I use a capital letter by way of distinction) is defined by 2 opposite sides, both wearing a uniform so each side KNOWS who they are fighting against.

war on terror means 1 side shows itself openly by wearing a uniform. The rest are just bullies and cowards who remain invisible posing like ordinary members of the public like you or I.

Simple distinction.

The root of all Wars is money and greed !! Simple !

Wait until our Troops are withdrawn... then you'll see the economy increase bigtime when the entrepneurs take over !!!!!

I'm not cynical enough to believe we go to war to help the economy. Although it does seem that WWI and WWII did help the economy.

Having a democracy in the middle east (if only it were possible!), would probably be a boon to the long term economy, particularly if oil were not controlled by terrorists.

Firing up the war machine creates jobs . But when you stop the war the economy always takes a crap . So it doesn't work in the long run .

it will all make sense to you in a few years when the war is no longer "helping" our economy but hindering it. Our nation is deep in debt and eventually someones gonna have to pay for it.

What exactly is foolish here?

The point is they say its helping now but just wait until we all have to make up the difference the story will change then.

The only war that ever helped the economy was WWII.
FDR wanted the Japs to bomb Pearl Harbor so he could declare war.
But.... was it to bring us out of the Depression?
I don't know. Or was it for other reasons?
Does anyone know?????
