Godzilla size? Shirt is a bit of a risky gift prospect - Asian clothing can size up very small. Why don't you send her your basic measurements - chest, shoulder width, arm length etc and then you should be OK.

Japanese T Shirt Sizes

You will definitely wear LL. A Japanese L will be a little tight on you unless you like that sort of thing. I wear 5L and I can tell you that YOU WILL MANY TIMES BE IN BETWEEN LL and 3L so go for the larger if it is a shrinkable item like a 100% cotton T shirt. If you want something less loose and more form fitting go smaller. The problem is when you nees more than a 3L. I am glad my haunts are around Tokyo where I have a few more options vs. the countryside.

it depends when you have a big body..sometimes Large goes medium or small when the person is a body builder type..
but buying t-shirts has less worries than buying polo shirts..
I think the lage size in Japan would be OK as most are made in China..as I buy t-shirts from other countries it goes the same when the person has a normal body size..but when they are big and tall guys..go for the next size....I mean LL and XLL ....
I have lots of brothers in the family..

I agree with wuzaracer and Sarah A!

You'll probably need the LL or LLL sizes - Japanese clothes DO come up smaller than Western clothing, and sometimes the sleeves don't get longer when the shirt gets bigger, so maybe ask for something with short sleeves..?

But it IS a great idea to send your measurements - maybe including your armpit to cuff length if you want a long-sleeved shirt...?!

Large in Japan for t-shirts are the same as Large in the USA. For dress shirts, it goes by the centimeters.
