Hi Robbie...most people are not aware that cats are very capable of learning more command behaviours than most dogs if the proper techniques are applied.
As a professional animal trainer for over 20 years I specialize in training both domestic and exotic cats. Both my housecats not only understand obedience commands (come, sit, down, etc) but are also toilet trained, can flush the toilet, go to wherever I point, follow a target anywhere, jump through hoops, roll over, fetch, take apart a 3-D layered puzzle, wave, give a high-five, raise a paw to ask a question, fetch, do agility (like dog agility), walk on a leash in public and so much more. They understand both visual and verbal cues/signals as well and learn most new behaviours quite quickly within a matter of days and for the more complex behaviours such as balancing and walking on a ball in a month.
Training is conducted using operant conditioning through positive reinforcement. We never coerce/mold an animal to learn rather reward desired behaviour with food, praise (most cats only work for food) or toys and always ignore undesired behaviour so that extinguishes itself over time. This is the key technique to train any animal including goldifsh. Yes! You read that correctly... even small fish can be trained to learn new behaviours! Here's some videos of goldfish playing football, soccer and going through a hoop: http://www.fish-school.com/gallery.htm

How did you train your cat to play fetch??? They cat doesn't do that. If you throw a toy, she will go get it, but she won't come back

my cat fetches, sits, begs (for her canned food only), comes when called and working on getting her to roll over. I' ve got her to do it twice so far. I had a rat that used to help me feed my other rats. She would follow me to all the cages I would open the door of a cage and she would take a piece of food into the other rat. After she gave the other rat a piece of food she would go to the next cage and wait for me to finish feeding the last one. I had forty cages with rats. When we finished feeding them all she would go back to her cage and wait for me to feed her.

yes, i used put right on top of her nose (my rott) a treat and she would move her up so the treat would fly in the air and she would catch it in her mouth. very smart girl (dog), she learned that trick like in 10 mins. she passed away early this may. may she rest in peace.
that's a cute name for a cat, spazz seems smart too

my cat can do a trick!!! what he likes is his belly rubed!!
Well what i do is that i make him lie down or the cat does, then i start to scrach his belly on one side then he feels compfty and then he rolls on the other side then i scratch that side and he keeps on and on and on... and if he/she dosent turn to thier side then scrach them write on top of thier tail from the back to the tail.. so it will make the cat have like a massage and you be the massager!! jk...

When giving our dogs treats they 'dance' (get up on their hind legs and twirl around) before they get it.
