I wouldn't say you won't think of him differently at all. I can guarantee you may be squeamish the first time you see him with a bloke and maybe think - that's weird etc.
Maybe you could just thank him for coming out to you. I realise it was over email but sometimes people can put words down better than they can say it. I came out in a letter because I know that is how I best get my words out.
Say that you respect his decision and that you will be there for him anytime he needs you. Tell him congratulations on being so brave etc.

You don't need to say anything unless he asks. Just continue to treat him with love and respect the same way you do anyone else that you care about. Being gay is not a disease that needs to be sympathized over.

dont fall into that trap of I WONT TREAT YOU ANY DIFFERNT , .. but then you say im so glad you came out congradulationsssssss dont make him feel like some special charity case just be like ok thats cool now we can scam hot guys together anyways you want to chill this weekend just change the subject dont make a big deal about it then he will truelllly know you are compfortable with it.

I would tell him that I feel really honored he shared that with me, and that I still love him the same, and that I'll keep his confidence and support him any way I can. Depending on your comfort level, you might also say you hope he feels he can talk to you about it.
