I need this answer and your opinion for a college assignament. Do you really think that violence in videogames can affect the conduct of the young people?

You might want some more realiable sources for a college-level assignment than the opinions of random people on Yahoo Answers.

That said, studies have shown that violent games can have an effect on younger gamers, like violent movies or TV shows, by making them more aggresive. Young children are more impressionable than older gamers and have less of a grip on reality and social dos and don'ts. That's why the rating system exists and why it should be enforced (meaning, fining or firing anyone who sells mature-rated games to kids). It's also a parent's job to monitor what their kids are playing, even if it means only checking the rating on the box.

If a game inspires someone to kill, they are obviously unstable and would undoubtably do it anyway if the game did not exist. It's only a matter of the right trigger coming along to set them off. If it was a simple as games making kids kill, we'd have way more school shootings.

Games are not at fault here, any more than violent movies and TV shows are at fault. Lazy parents and store clerks who do not check for ID when selling mature-rated games are.

I believe that violence in video games does not affect the conduct of children. However, it is the way the childrens relatives and friends act that determines their conduct. Now of course little kids (probably 4 and under) are still learning and they imitate what they see so violence does affect them in a way. But that is only because they do not understand what they are doing. It is the job of the parents to teach them that violence is wrong and that what they see on tv and in video games is not reality. If the parents do not do this, the child will believe that violence is alright.

Unfortunately yes. There was this one kid who killed 8 kids at a school in 1998 (not Columbine). People said, "I don't get it. He's never touched a gun in his life!" That was true. But, his parents hade their 2-car garage made into an arcade with games such as time crisis and other shooting games. In 2003, a 16 year old named Devon Moore had the game Grand Theft Auto:Vice City. He played it 24/7, memorizing all the streets and the moves his character made. When he got arrested for car theft, he stole an officer's gun and killed 2 policemen and a bystander. When handcuffed, he had said, "Life is a video game; you've got to die someday." THAT proves my point: violent video games can affect the conduct of young people.

It is not violence itself but the meaning of modern violence the problem. Violence have been present in the games of the kids for years, not only in the era of videogames. Since ever, kids have played different kinds of war, they represents the epic batles of real or fiction heroes. The problem with current violence is that it has no sense anymore, when kids played war, they needed to be faster or stronger, it was part of the development of the body. The violence in videogames only develops certain coordination abilities but it is very bad for the development of the body.

Absolutely not!
If that statement was true we would have horrible teen gangs taking over the world! Life would not be what it is!
My son is 16 and I buy him all kinds of ps games. He plays all kinds of killing GAMES. This is entertainment for him and a large group of friends. This is a mutli million dollar industry, imagine how many players are out there!
I in no way would have spent hundreds of dollars on this stuff if I thought he would turn violent or act out scenes he plays.

Well it certainly does to an extent, fer example if i was a parent and i had a 10 year old son i certainly wouldnt buy him GTA, but if i had a 14 year old son who had a firm grasp of reality i wouldnt have any second thoughts about buying him a few violent video games

you're literally not unaffected through them. they have been shown to desensitize little ones and previous alike to even the most vicious acts. the human beings subjected to careful study of their psychological reaction were shown to were plagued through violent videos and video games even at the same time as they themselves did not are conscious of it. understanding this, the united states military now use such technologies deliberately to demonize and dehumanize objective populations so as that squaddies, sailors, airmen and marines can (supposedly) kill extra effectively and without the psychological trauma that has characterised strive against veterans interior the previous. no, i don't think it does. remember when mortal kombat first came out? all the parents in america were freaking out cuz they thought it would influence their children to rip someone's head off with their bare hands. yea, we all see the horrible influence mk had on our youth today. blaming kid's bad behavior on video games is a parent' s excuse for not being able to properly discipline their child. especially today where everybody is so politically correct and scared of having charges pressed. video games only have an influence on your life if you let them BECOME your life. as long as you stay in touch with reality, video games are a fun and entertaining way to bond with friends and even parents. some of my best memories are of playing mortal kombat with my older brother (who is deceased), and im just as normal as they come. just don't let games take over your youth's life, especially if they're violent, and be a good parent.
