Does is vary between sexes? Is a bloke more of a man if it happens early in his life? does it vary between races, and is it possible that it can revert back to being an outie if you get fat? can anyone remember this momentous change in their lives and if their lives changed in any way since?

After the umbilical cord is clamped and cut, the remaining clamped-off part withers and falls off. I believe there may be some healing involved after that, but whatever your belly button looks like after any redness/irritation passes is what it's going to look like.

Google search: innie overweight

http://www.faithandlove.com/dopost.asp?z=1&thr=15145 "innie-outie, depending on how overweight I am this week." I clicked the link, but apparently in order to see the full post I need to become a member (free registration).

So apparently for at least one person, it can vary. Hmmmm.

The umbilical cord when it's cut depends if it's an outie or innie, it normally falls off after 4-6 days after birth.....I have an innie - always have, always will (no matter how much weight I may put on)!!!hehehe

It will only change if a man puts on a lot of weight, or a woman get pregnant, or an illness that makes the stomach protrude. Otherwise it will never change from what you've got as a child.

An outie belly button is permanent.

As far as it doesn't change at all it depends on how the umbilical cord was cut after birth

I believe that it is just the way the umbilical cord was cut when a person was born.
