I just came back from the hygienist doing a dental planing quad on me. And the doctor who administered the anesthesia had some serious shaky hands. I was like 'Are you trying to DESTROY my gums?!' But I didn't say anything. The injections hurted like a b*tch. But I hold my breath.

Last injection I had to get I didn't even feel. It was in my arm, flu shot. Had braces and had plenty of injections in my mouth,. When the orthodontist had a difficult time working in my mouth he would stomp his feet like he was a little kid. I had to try my best to not laugh at him.

Look for another dentist. The numbing medication does create a burning sensation before it works, but if he/she takes her time, it's painless ... and I'm serious. They can put on a topical numbing with a q-tip and then you don't even feel a prick.

About the shaking, though, some dentists may shake your cheek or tap your mouth to distract you from the spot they are injecting, but the need is totally still.

It sounds like you really need to shop for a new dentist before you get anymore planing done.

I would much rather have a injection in the arm. I hate going to the dentist.

Wow, Huggywell, what a great suggestion. That is what this site is about in my opinion. Learning neat things!

The injections in my mouth didn't hurt... I can hardly feel it... maybe because I couldn't see... I haven't had a shot in my arm in a long time, but I don't want to reacquaint myself with the needle! :-)
