Strange thing the `rivalry` between the English and the Jocks. In sport there is no problem, the English are good at most things, and the Jimmy`s win sod all ! Perhaps its the climate, English Spring begins April 20, Scottish Summer ends April 21. It could be dietary! Scots eat a large number of thistles and tatties, whereas the English usually dine out. It is indeed a strange affair between the English and the barbarians.

You must have led a sheltered life. I'm English, been around about half a century, got Scottish relatives, worked with scots, and in Scotland and I've never seen it. Rivalry now that's a different thing all together.

you always get some scots that dont like the english and visa versa as with the welsh tho i think thers more of a hate thing going on with the welsh for the english than there is in return, dunno why though as most of the welsh i know are really nice...dead patriotic but thats not a bad thing, its just a shame that if i say im a patriotic englishman i automaticaly get labeled as a bnp supporter so i dont bother. in the end i'll try and get along with most anybody i meet tho id be wary of the welsh as id never know if they are proper anti english. on the whole most nations get along well until sport comes around unless your a yank in which case everyone hates you...only joking but you get what i mean right?

I am Scottish and I can quite categorically say that I don't dislike English people!!!

Historically the Scots and English fought against each other and Scotland wanted to remain separate from England, but England decided they would rule Scotland and there were many battles fought over this. ( you should watch Braveheart!)

Most Scottish people are very patriotic, but when it comes down to it we all know and like tons of English people, go to England on holiday and don't ever give it a second thought, it's all bravado, particularly when there's football or rugby involved.

Overall I would say it has developed into light-hearted rivalry, bar the few bigots that you would get anywhere.

I find the Scots are great people,I lived in a small village in Scotland for 8 years, they were friendly and made you feel welcome...

I love them sooooo much that I was married to a Scot for 7 years, and have been with my current partner who is also Scottish for 9 years..

Historical. But history is in the past.
Thing is not all scots hate English nor all English hate scots. Most of the time thankfully it is in fun......sometimes it becomes serious but those who make it serious are the "pick a fight" brigade who if it was not that would latch onto another excuse.

babe what are you saying? I am from a little town in lancs and moved up scotland with a partner. They are so nice love they dont dislike the english at all. Football babe celtic and liverpool have the same anthem and when they play together they are best of mates. go for it love you get the best friends you ever had up there. They treat you good. Had a friend there who supported celtic but if l/pool were on he supported them just as much. It nice up there and if yo0u move there ask them to make you some tablet ( kind of toffee ). best of luck babe
