PR would be the 53rd state, after Afganistan and Iraq. LOOK OUT, CANADA, YOU'RE NEXT!

Good God NO!!!! Have you looked at Puerto Rico's economy lately? Why would we need a poverty-stricken state where most of the people don't even speak English? All the intelligent Puerto Ricans have moved to New York anyway.

No if any state should be the 51st should be New Columbia (Washington D.C.) Seeing as though they are taxed and are considered U.S. resident, and are in the U.S. while PR is just a territory that can be sold or taken over and is too far for U.S. to take over, don't they speak a different language? I think even Guam is a possibility if Hawaii is....

From my standpoint it's up to the people of Puerto Rico, and they don't want to become a state. To each his own.

I think it is up to Puerto Rico and currently they seem quite happy not being one of our states.

puerto rico is so isolated from the US, most puerto ricans don't think of themselves as Americans, but just puerto ricans....i think it should just be left alone to be an independent country

I think it's utterly ridiculous. Please don't give me a thumbs down because America already has 50 states on its hand. Even though English is a polular language in Puerto Rico, there's too much spanish involved. Plus, distance wise, it's pretty far, don't you think?

Well, after reading that they're starting to pay taxes tomorrow, then I don't give a hoot. As long as they're chipping in they can call themselves invisible for all I care :)

I think it would create a real mess trying to fit that 51st star on the flag......
But if someone comes up with an elegant design, I'll re-think that!

Don't really care-- but the Puero ricans don't want it. They like things just the way they are. They can vote, they get gov. money but they don't pay fed. taxes.

There are other things too I'm sure.
