I was living in a nice apartment with anoher guy who was the primary lease holder, i was given a 30 day notice when he decided to move and I was given a reciept for the amount I was owed and a 5 day period to pay. That was two months ago and I have yet to get my $1500. Do I go to the police, do I get a lawyer? What are the steps involved and am I entitled to intrest or damages for the time period with out my money? Also a check was bounced in my account... I am guessing that obviously this is owed to me.

You can consider taking him to small claims court. You won't need a lawyer for that. The information about how to do it is available from your local court system in your community. If you file a small claim and he fails to respond or show up, you will get a default judgement. That will allow you to attach to any property (real estate) and perhaps go after any payroll with a garnishment. For $1500, I would definately nail his asss to the wall.

You and your roommate are co-tenants and except the lease specifies in the different case, both of you're "at the same time and severally" to blame for the full lease. which means the owner is entitled to the full lease and would bypass after both one in all you or both one in all you as a thanks to collect it. Pay the owner through verify and contain with the verify a short letter explaining that you're paying the full lease and that the co-tenant has not contributed their percentage of the lease, yet for you to absolutely fulfill the words of your lease. Pay all utilities through verify. keep copies of your exams - print them down from the monetary agency's website. document a small declare action on the prompt. counting on how briskly your deadbeat roommate's tab builds up, it can quickly exceed the small claims reduce, that is $a million,500 right here, and could be diverse on your jurisdiction. If the deadbeat's percentage exceeds that, you may document further small claims movements each and each month! domestically, the cost is largely $15.

If you cant be bothered with small claims because of the wait period. You should take his things that are worth what you would assume a cheep pawn shop would give! and o yea get the interest(about 10% a week compounded). You may need a big friend to enforce this idea though. good luck

The police can do nothing for you. This is a Civil Problem. You need to take this person to Small Claims Court.
