I've heard that some didn't get the jobs they want because they were overqualified? What is wrong with that?

many employers feel that if someone has too many qualifications or a higher education than required to do the job that the person will become bored and dissatisfied with the job and quit.
for instance, a person with a masters degree in physics working at wal mart as a checker. they'd probably hate it and be bored for lack of mental stimulation.

It's happened to me several times. I have applied for jobs, that I really wanted because of their location or because I was interested in their particular industry, and was told after the interview that they would love to hire me but my education and experience made me overqualified for the job and the pay scale. I have actually had to "dumb down" my resume to get a job. How stupid is that?

just like everyone said above me...

the company will look at you (if ur overqualified) and wonder "why the hell do you want such an easy or boring job when you can find something way better?"

the person trying to be employed has so many +'s for him/her that it gets the person hiring wondering!

When someone is "over qualified" the employer is concerned that the new employee will become bored and leave after learning the job. If that happens they are back to square one and have to hire again. Believe me, NO ONE wants to keep hiring and hiring to fill positions.

If someone is over qualified, the employer wonders why they would want their little position---they must have bad baggage.

some companies will not hire someone that is over qualified because they will eventually get a better job offer and leave. besides if they are over qualified they will not be happy on the job and cause other people to be unhapy also.

Because someone over qualified can have a "better" career than the one they applied for, and it makes it a little harder for average applicants with no special skills to become employed.

Manipulation. Conspiracy. The next logical step is to reassess, go for self employment. AND MAKE SURE YOU KEEP A DISTANCE FROM ANY KIND OF GOVERNMENT WORK.
