I just wanted to know if I was rude to this person - I was standing at the bus stop and a guy came there in a few minutes..he began to talk to me about school, courses, and just general things..
he had been talking to me for hardly 10 min. when he asked if i'd like to go for coffee with him sometime later.. and i was a little stunned and told him i wasn't sure - i didn't really want to go because i have a boyfriend. So, do you think i was rude? Or was i right in not going with him because he's a stranger?

No you were not rude, you didn't KNOW him and it would be scary if you did agree to go with him- the world is not a safe place anymore. Don't feel bad, you did the right thing, you basically let him know that you weren't really interested. Good job. Rude would have been if you stopped him as soon as he started talking to you, gave him a dirty look, and told him off- that would've been rude.

I don't think that it was rude if you said it in a calm, polite tone of voice.

Having said that, I get the impression that you just made up the part about having a boyfriend just to have an excuse to say no. Maybe you should have just told him that you didn't feel like it, or that you didn't want to, and just leave it at that instead of lying.

I wouldn't go anywhere far away with a stranger, either, because it might be dangerous. Several mass murderers like Ted Bundy were handsome and charming (therefore no one ever suspected them). But if the coffee shop is in plain sight, and there are plenty of people around, I don't see why you would be scared to sit and talk in a PUBLIC place if you enjoyed his company.

It is never rude to say no when you are not comfortable with something. You must set and respect your own boundaries. You can say "no" nicely or say "no" rudely. It is not the response that is rude - it all depends on how you say it.

Absolutely right not to go with him. If you see him hanging around the school again, get the teachers to call the police. In fact, I would mention it to your teacher anyway.
