Find the lowest common denominator (LCD).

i.e. 1/2 + 1/3

LCD = 2*3 = 6

(1*3)/(2*3) + (1*2)/(3*2) =

3/6 + 2/6

5/6

the first thing you need to do is find a common denominator, something both fractions can be, once you do that, all you have to do is add the numbers or subtract the numbers (remember that when finding the common denominator, you have to do the same thing to the numerator as you did to the denominator k)

Well it would help if you gave us the problem. But anyway you need to make the denominator the same by multiplying both by a number that will make them equal. If you can't think of any then just multiply the first denominator by the second and the second by the first.
