a degree means you have experience because usually to get a degree you have to do volunteer hours in your field of study...the two go hand-in-hand so employers are more likely to hire someone with training AND experience than someone with just experiene alone

Experience does mean a lot, but a four year degree shows a commitment to improving yourself without any financial gains. Nevertheless, the question you are asking is often asked by new graduates complaining that they don't have the experience people want...it is a catch 22...either a degree and no experience or experience and no degree

A lot of employers don't look at the degree anymore. All they want is experience especially if you are looking for a job. So whoever told you to get the 4 year degree is wrong. Getting the degree will advance your salary that is all.

the employer is trying to find how qualified you are before you start a job, so even though yove done it for 10 years doesnt mean your good at it, netiher does college, but if you have a 4 year degree is somethign liek say buisness, than at least the employer knows you have learned different skills needed to perform the job. same tyhing with a mechanic, you coudl have been a car mechanic for 5 years and know tons of stuff, but someoen stright out of an automotive tech school woudl probably get the job

Having a degree is over-rated if you're not in a medical or technical field. After receiving by BS in Business, I worked for an insurance company and they knew I had a degree but was kept at the bottom of the totem pole via my supervisor which by the way, did not have a degree whatsoever. I just kinda felt like she didn't want to see me advance ahead of her. Just my thoughts.

Experience means a lot, but four solid years of gaining knowledge will usually win. Experience doesn't offer the variety of knowledge that school allows.

degrees are a load of rubbish. Theres loads of jobs out there which are training on the job and they allow you to take an nvq and get paid! Also there is a chance you'll get promoted after you have finished the qualification. Whats the point of wasting £3K+ on getting a degree when you can just get a job with training. Degrees are only suitable for rich people who can afford it, clever people who get a scholarship and people who are on the dole who don't have to pay fees. As for the rest of us, i would just get a job.
