On older models, there is a small, square, white reset button on the back... removal and reinstalltion required... a good aftermarket Car HiFi installer shop should be able to help you.

The best place to go is the BMW dealership. It should only take them a few minutes to reset. As far as the controls it's fairly straightforward but if there is trouble they also should be able to help, even if you didn't buy it from them.
