I don't see any fussing about those two legal issues that are both against their morals and against the Bible?
why do they pick and choose?

but yet they throw a fit over abortion, which is mentioned much less than either divorce or alcohol in the Bible, and gay marriage?

for example I don't think I've ever seen a question on here about either... yet countless quesitons on other Biblical issues...

Jack: you're splitting hairs...
first off... what you list, isn't the reason for most divorces... (and I don't remember that being in the Bible, can you cite the passage)
second, you could say the same about drugs... that argument just doens't work... who never gets drunk that drinks?

paradigm: we could talk about any issues you want... I'm just saying, do it all or don't do it at all...
saying alcohol is legal and drunkeness isn't is from the same line of thought that says oral sex isn't sex... it's rationalization...

I mean, you could technically say gay marriage doesn't exactly result in sodomy... and sodomy is the sin, if I remember correctly...
I would suspect that the same number of those that drink alcohol and don't get drunk are the same number of gay people that don't participate in sodomy

rukidding, cybeg... I'm just going by what your represenatives were discussing/campaigning on in Congress... moral issues like abortion and gay marriage... for which they both use the Bible as an explanation...
don't look at me... I didn't make it a conservative issue...

The conservatives did ban alcohol. It was called Prohibition and the law actually became part of the U.S. Constitution. It was generally ignored and the ammendment was repealed. The same things about alcohol then was the same thing they were talking about illegal drugs now. The whole reason why alcohol was so popular, was it was safer to drink than water (this was before water purification and you could get some nasty deseases such as polio) and it was addictive. Even after Prohibition, there were still areas that banned alcohol.
As for divorce, it is allowed in the Bible but a person could only remarry if the spouse died even if they were divorced. Conservatives that have no religion or practice another religion might have otehr ideas on how divorce works or should be allowed. England tried to ban divorce except for things like adultry. People would hire photographers to have posing pictures to make it look like they were commiting adultry. People claiming to be Chistian conservatives that divorce and remarry while the former spouce is still alive , are not social conservatives.
Also note that there could be liberal and conservative differences in a person. One can be truely conservative or liberal or they could be socially and militarly conservative yet be economiclly liberal or they could be a liberal militarly and economically yet be a socially conservative.

Conservatives can't ban divorce or alcohol, as in the early 1900's when we did, it just leads to more underground drinking. Which wouldn't be good on the economy anyways. Divorce is something that the american peopled have gotten use to, get married, fall out of love and leave.
As Jack said, the Bible says nothing about drinking, it just talks against getting drunk, and doing things as sins, while drunk. Being drunk is a sin, but drinking is not a sin considered under the bible. Divorce is applied in the bible in an indirect statement. Cheating, and not keeping your vows to your spouse is a sin, a sin in which a divorce will solve. Not that simply, however, the Bible speaks of the simples in life.
The bible does not talk against Abortion, nor does it talk against Gay Marriage. But since when do people get married under the bible? Not many. Love is love, and there isn't much you can do about it. If you're gay you're gay, its how GOD wanted and wanted you to live. God makes who you are. Whether its love from a man to a man , or a man and women, or women to women, its still love. Love is an abstract word that will never be defined, so why does marriage have to be defined through the limitations of man and women? Whatever rocks your boat man.
As for abortions, the bible says that a child is a gift of God A gift of god we can not relay against God. However, take into consideration that each and every day, girls, and women are raped and molested. If they were to get Pregnant, would that be FAIR to them to bear a child and continue the pain and suffering brought on to them by another being and against their will? Why do they have to go through 9 months of pure hell, and then of course labor, and then bearing a child and raising a child when it was not under their consent? Take into consideration if you had a young daughter , 13 - 16 years old who was raped and became pregnant with the rapers child...would you want to MAKE your daughter live through that horror AGAIN to bear the chld of the man who damaged and scared her for life?
Kids do stupid things when they are young, it doesn't mean that they have to live with all the consequences.
Its a on going moral dispute, because people have their own beliefs, and they share beliefes. Its just how life goes. You may say a Ford F150 is better, but I may like a F250. Its all on preference.

Your point falls apart because you don't know what the Bible says about these issues.
The Bible does not condemn alcohol or its use - it only condemns drunkeness.
The Bible makes a provision for divorce - when one partner cheats on the other.
Love Jack
PS: Um, the vast majority of people who drink alcohol do not get drunk - they drink responsibly. If you believe that drinking = drunkeness, then you may want to seek out help for your own alcoholism. Try AA.
Matthew 19:9 indicates the provision that divorce is permissible if adultery has taken place.

Divorce is bad in the eyes of the church. Yet, conservatives don't complain because some of them get divorces. I'm not sure about alcohol but divorce is clearly stated in the bible that is bad and god united the couple. This is hypocrisy. They pick and choose what they are going to preach to their gullible audiences. If they want to get my respect, they will make laws making restrictions on divorce.

You're missing something...
Alcohol is not against moral values, drunkenness is, however. Divorce is discouraged, but not illegal. For a time, conservatives did try to make divorces more difficult to attain but failed and have since put the issue on a back-burner, not completely abandoned, so...why do you pick and choose these issues?

Why do you assume that all conservatives have something to do with the Bible and religion? Not all of us are Fundamentalist Evangelicals. Some of us find the liberal way of thinking as illogical and the opposite of common sense and don't want to go that far off the deep end.

The reality is that these laws would have no chance of passing in this modern democracy.
My opinion is without alcohol, ultra-conservatives would have no excuse for when they indulge in the same behaviors they condemn. Without divorce, the spouses of those who do indulge in these behaviors would have no chance of pretending to be shocked and distraught and then search for a more moral partner.

What about gambling? A mere 30 years ago it was allowed in only two states and was considered a sin by many conservative churches. Now it is all pervasive, it's everywhere. Do conservatives want to rid the US of gambling?
