i'm doing a reserach paper over corruption of power. i need an individual who has seized and abused their power. i already have a few in mind (hitler, stalin, lenin, mao zedong, nixon, mussolini...) but i want someone that people wouldn't normally think of. it could be anyone not just in politics, perhaps someone in the music industry (ceo of record labels, magazine editors, etc...) or in the media, it really doesn't matter. any information is appreciated and thanks.

Here's someone from the 19th and 20th century industrial world:
John D. Rockefeller
Later in life, he realized how much of an SOB he'd been in his rise to wealth and power and became a philanthropist in order to assuage his guilt and remorse.
Some other ideas:
- The Romans: Julius Ceasar, Nero, Caligula
- Henry VIII (wanted a divorce that the Catholic Church wouldn't give him, so he separated from the Vatican and created the Church of England; oh, and he executed some of his wives because they couldn't bear him a son)
- Suge Knight: Death Row records; murder; extortion; blackmail; you name it
Look into some of the CEOs of companies in the last 20 years (i.e. Enron) and look at their paychecks. Some of these people make over $100 million dollars a year in SALARY alone!!!!

Amin, Idi , president of Uganda (1971-1979), also known as Idi Amin Dada, whose brutality and disregard for the rule of law led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and plunged the country into chaos and poverty.
Pol Pot
"To preserve you is no gain, to destroy you is no loss," was a Khmer Rouge saying. Somewhere between one and two million people died of starvation, exhaustion, or were tortured and executed within four years under Pol Pot's leadership. With the arrival of the Vietnamese in 1979, Cambodia fell into civil war, which lasted until 1985, when Hun Sen became Prime Minister.

Francisco Franco is one that people don't normally think about, plus he was NEVER removed from power, so that makes him a little different. Plus, there is lots of evidence that he was involved with Hitler and Mussolini so the fact that no one removed him is pretty extreme. You could also write in generalities about bosses abusing their power and infringing on others rights, gang leaders, mobsters, etc.

Pol Pot, Idi Amin. One that maybe people wouldn't think of straight away is the Roman Emperor Augustus, who became supreme ruler by killing off all his rivals.
