Yes Virginia,
There are true Cubs fans out there. I have been since one since birth (1956) I was raised on the 3800 block of North Sheffield Ave, 2 blocks north of Wrigley Field, It was just another day in the neighborhood when there was a game. Awesome exhilleration!!
We could shag home-runs during batting practice, and trade them in before game time for free admission to bleachers, if you knew who to see. Seats cost a $1, YES ONE DOLLAR, for the bleachers, and that was the coolest place to be. Opening day was an un-official school day off and have been to opening days that the weather was nicer at the North Pole. Met Bill Veeck, Jr., owner of The Chicago White Sox in the bleachers. I could ramble for hours, but I won't.
Why do I Love them, can't answer that, all I can say is I am, and will always be a Chicago Cubs Fan.
and for thorax371, you poor abused little boy, i pity your soulless existance.

I have loved the Cubs my entire life. I am now 32 years old. One of my fondest memories is when the Cubs clinched their division in 1984. My mom was crying, we were all cheering, hugging, etc. My mother has since passed away, and when I think of her, that is the memory that always comes to mind.
The Cubs are the great American team. They are the underdog every year. Their fans are the most loyal of any fans in any sport. Every year, we have tremendous hope and confidence that this will be the year, and every year it does not happen. A non-Cubs fan probably wonders why we do not give up on them. We can't. We won't. The Cubs represent all of our struggles. They represent all of our hopes and dreams. One day, the impossible dream will become reality. I think that day will be in 2007! Go Cubs!

I am a die hard Cub fan, mainly because my father is. I remember when I was younger, around 5 or so, I would always watch the "Cubs '84" special that was aired on WGN. My dad taped it, and it highlighted the entire season. It's funny to look back now on those guys, Jodi Davis, Gary Matthews, Leon Durham, Keith Moreland, Bob Dernier, Ron Cey, Sandberg, Sutcliffe, the list goes on. I know I am not the only person who actually got sick to my stomach following the 2003 NLCS meltdown. To get so close, and have it all washed away during the course of 4 painful games, almost too much to bare. Maybe we are gluttons for punishment, but a true Cubs fan will admit that while we usually are out of the chase by July, there's always next year.

I have been a cubs fan since I remember getting into baseball when they were on TV and I saw Rondell White on their and liked them since them. So ever since then I have loved the cubs and get into when people dog on them. I still think Sammy didn't know about the cork and the kid I wont say his name ruined our World Series chances for a while. But I think the cubs will win in 2008.

All you need to do is go to Wrigley once and realize what is great about being a Cubs fan. I've been to other ballparks, but nothing beats Wrigley. Being a Cubs fan is never boring. They get close once in a while, but they never fail to leave you heartbroken. Not a great reason, but I'm used to it by now.
