To an extent, it is. When the baby starts growing, the muscles are stretched and it can be very uncomfortable. Particularly, it seems, toward the middle lower abdomen. It will pass and what helped my wife was heat to the abdomen and small massages on her lower back.

If the pain is accompanied by spotting, though, that MIGHT be the very begining stages of a miscarriage, so just to be safe, it's something to be aware of.

Good luck and congratulations on the upcoming baby!

As always, you should follow your instincts. There is absolutely nothing wrong with insisting to be checked out by a doctor if you're worried, and most are happy to do it.

If it comforts the two of you at all, types of abdominal pains are common, in all sorts of forms. I actually started getting severe lower abdominal pains starting at about 12 weeks, and it turned out to be an uncommon type of pregnancy-related hernia casued by pressure aginst the muscle wall. There is also pain associated with the uterus stretching out. Also, between 12-15 weeks, the uterus begins to expand beyond the pelvic bone's ability to contain it, and will feel uncomfortable until it *pops* over the pelvic bone.

All this being said, do trust your instincts. If your wife is at all concerned, there is nothing wrong with calling the doctor to get it checked.

Good Luck.

Usually. It depends on the type of pain. Even at this stage there's stretching going on. (Try researching round ligament pain)Just make sure it's not severe or unbearable. I had appendicits at 12 weeks that was almost misdiagnosed. Also, a crampy/menstrual feeling should probably not be ignored either. Just to be sure... call your OB! They are there to answer any adn all questions.

Pregnancy is not painful when all is right. It could be pains from gas, but if she is not certain, she should see an OB-GYN as soon as possible. I'm sorry to worry you but If her pregnancy is tubal, as the fetus grows, she would experience pain. Before to long, the tube would rupture, great pain and damage, (not life threatening to her but she would need immediate emergency care). This may not be the case, I pray it is not, but you need to know that she should be seen ASAP by an OB-GYN or an emergency room to determine the cause of the pain.

It may be normal if she is getting the pain around the time she would have got her period. BUT I would still get checked N E ways. Make sure she goes to the hospital if she has any immediate signs of blood, strong major pain, tough time breathing, uncontrollable pushing etc. Good luck and I hope everything is OK!

most likely its just the uterus stretching.. shes bound to have a lot of unfamiliar pains in the next 28 weeks. if its anything severe or with other symptoms, she needs to call the doctor.

From my understanding, the pain on the left side is okay because that is the baby growing and stretching anything else get checked just in case. Everyones body is different.

Don't worry to much if it isn't accompanied by blood. The baby has to grow somewhere and the uterus is making room for baby to grow.

Congratulations!
