Wide open question of which you will receive a lot of answers.
My pick, "Cather in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. Holden Caulfield is one of the more important characters in 20th century American literature. Because the character is well known, you should not have trouble finding a lot of analysis on the character.

Oh my gosh. There are so many GREAT books. The best is by Franz Kafka called The Metamorphisis. It is about this guy who woke up one morning to find himself turned into a cockroach. He didn't mind that he was a cockroach, his concern was getting up and out of bed and going to work. That would be a GREAT character to work with. oh yeah.
Another is Slaughterhouse 5. It is about a guy who is abducted by aliens and they allow him to go backwards in life and relive the moments he had. Very very strange.

An interesting if confusing question. Does it mean - what constitutes a good book? Or does it mean the name of a good book?
Since it's for a class project and you evidently don't want to study very hard, I recommend "Winnie the Pooh". I'd suggest "The Adventures of Mr. Toad" but that might be a little too complicated for you.

"Diary of a Drug Fiend" Alistair Crowley.
Awesome. Written in the 20s, but still incredibly current. Great descriptions, drugs, love, paganism.
Depending on how long you have to read the book it might a good choice.
a shorter recommende read would be "Fugitive Pieces," if you have to do literary analysis it might be easier. evrything in this book (places, rocks, etc) are connected to something else so it might give you a lot to write about.
good luck
