Does it take a long time? Is it expensive? The airport's website says it's possible but I want to know from someone who has done it, whether or not it's practical, and if I should instead just pay the extra $30 and fly into Oakland.

It'll probably take about an hour and a half...

Take cal-train to the santa clara stop and then you can take the free #10 bus to the airport.

The cal-train is located near now AT&T Park(formerly Pac-Bell Park)...I think it's 5-6 dollars each way.

Definitely fly into Oakland! The trip from San Jose is a royal pain. You *can* do it, but you need to take several different kinds of public tranportation. If yo have bags you have to lug them on and off buses, shuttles, etc.

I've gone from the San Jose airport to the suburbs around the Hayward/Fremont/Union City area, and it takes a couple of hours. San Francisco is about an hour further away.

The Oakland airport has a shuttle that takes you directly to a BART station.

I'd spend the $30

You'd still save a little money flying into SJC, but it'll take a long time to get to San Francisco.

You'll have to take VTA bus #10 to Caltrain, then it's about 1 hour 35 minutes on the train. The shuttle bus is free, but the train is $6.75 each way.

OAK is only 30 minutes away from San Francisco, but the public transportation costs are not much less than SJC ($2.00 for shuttle bus + $3.15 for the train = $5.15 each way).

i was born and raised in san jo. i live in san fran now. i've taken this by public transiet. its not worth it. now the best and easiest way would be to take a taxi to cal train station in down town san jo. then take that all the way into san fran. it will take you smack dab in the middle of down town. and will cost you about 6 bucks. the cab ride will cost about 10. and the ride on cal train will be about 1 and half hours. you are better off paying an extra 30 bucks to fly into oakland. then simply taking bart into the city. it will be faster and cheaper.

its not practical to fly into san jose then head up to san fran. especailly after flying. but the train ride is rather quiet so you can get some sleep on there. and san fran is the last stop so you won't miss your stop one bit.

good luck

Spend the money & fly into Oakland. It would take you over an hour to take public transportation.

Definitely worth the 30bucks! That is a long haul and unless you are traveling on off peak hours traffic will be horrible. If you were to take Public transportation "Bart" it would probably take you and hour of so. If you don't know "Bart" is like our subway, and it smells and takes forever.

Not sure how your going to do that because there is no public transportation that goes from San Jose to San Francisco unless you catch a cab and that's going to cost u. I guess Caltrans Amtrack train would be the best route and I'm not sure of the exact cost but it's probley not that much because people use it everyday to commute to and from work. check there website.

Where in SF are you going to?

Can you fly into SFO instead? There is a BART connection that would be better for you
