$25 x .20 = $5

$30 x .25 = $7.50

That is about the shortest way to them - just change the % to a decimal and multiply, remembering to put the decimal point in the right place. I hope this helps.

OK, for percentages, all you need to know is how to get to 10%, and then every other percentage is easy to figure out with just a little multiplication.

For instance: On the first problem, if a $25 radio is 20% off, first figure out what 10% is ($2.50) Then you just multiply that by 2 to get the 20% discount. The answer is that you can save $5.00 by buying it on sale.

On the next one, 25% off a $30 coat- OK, what is 10% of $30. $3!! So multiply that by 2- $6!! Uh-oh, though- what about the other 5% you need to figure out? Easy! What's half of $3?-$1.50! So add that $1.50 to the $6 you already added up, and you will find that the woman will be getting $7.50 off her coat for the sale price of $22.50.

Logically, you'd just multiply the percent off by the original amount to figure out how much you saved.

First question: 25 x 0.2
Second question: 30 x 0.25

just say $25 x 20% (which is .20, just move the decimal over to the left two times.) your answer is how much you saved.

WAY ONE:

the 1st one is $5.00 just move the decimal over one to the left and mulitiply by 2 if you don't want to cross multiply...

25% is 1/4 so diviude 30 by 4...$7.50

WAY TWO:

cross multiplying is like proportions

........x ........................%
----------------....=....-----------
orig. price...............100

...... x ..............20
----------..=..---------
.....25 ...........100

100x = 20x25
100x = 500
x = 500/100
x = $5

Do the math and stop cheating. I will tell you how to solve it but not the answer.
