well, both women AND men should be shaving around their butthole, since it prevents clingons! lol...hair does give a place for bacteria to grab hold, but only if it's a warm moist environment. If you were naked all the time, it wouldn't be a problem, but wearing pants and shorts and underwear, heat and sweat builds up, which lets bacteria multiply. That's why a lot of women only shave in the summer months, because the heat and sweat isn't a problem in the winter. I think men and women should both shave for cleanliness, since we are wearing clothes all day
Also, what Sam says about underwear and skirts is not exactly true, infact, the reason women wore skirts and dresses in the first place was to let air in, because that kills and prevents bacteria from bulding up. The more air you get circulating around(not in) your vagina, the less chance bacteria has of colonizing on the outside and eventually working it's way in, that's why boys shorts type panties and spandex are the worst for women as far as getting bacterial infections, because it creates a warm moist environment for them to multiply on the outside of your body, and then they make their way in. Your vagina would be perfectly happy with you walking around naked all day. Going commando in a skirt is actually better than wearing spandex or boyshorts for extended periods of time.

I shave because I feel A LOT cleaner when I do and my boyfriend prefers it. I think it's better for hygiene, but you definitly have to keep it clean and do it safe so you don't cut yourself or get an infection.

I shave down south because my fiance likes it better that way. I guess I do to but the thing I don't like is when the hair starts to grow back and you start to itch.

I keep the lawn mowed and do some edging, but going bare with a razor is too painful. I haven't simultaneously found the courage and the place to try a wax.

Since we are no longer spending our lives outdoors, dressed in loincloths, pubic hair is unnecessary. That said, shaving is still a preference (unless we're talking about bathing suit season...then it should be a law).

It is actually worse for hygiene if you don't keep it very clean. The hair down there is there for protection. It keeps germs from getting in. Even if you wear underwear, there is a good chance of germs coming in--especially if you wear a skirt. (If you go commando, the risk grows immensely!)
However, if you keep clean, then it is just about the preference.

I dont thnk women should have hair anywhere except their heads and as for armpit hair on women that is as much a turn off as a kick in the nuts, absolutely gross. I am not being sexist I just don't think it looks feminine.
