have you ever worked on a diesel engine before. The oil is like black permanent marker. Diesel engines produce a lot of soot and just run dirtier than gasoline engines. Therefore they are dirtier to work on.

Unfortunately, diesel is a very dirty engine. From the diesel fuel to the oil. The blow-by from combustion getting past the rings gets into the oil. When you change the oil and get it on your hands, it stains for quite a while. These are just altogether dirty engines.

All cars have grease and when you work on them, you end up finding it just about everywhere. Old or new, it just is there.
