They don't always deserve them, but it's their responsibility to remove them from power when needed. Leaders should serve the people, not vice versa.

Yes they deserve whatever leaderships they get, but some do not have any option, as you see with even one of the greatest country in the world, the U.S.A. The dictators are in power because they have the backing of the powers such as the army, etc., and some of what you call democracy leadership has been known to buy the leadership financially. Then there are the leadership that are blindly followed by the people because most of the people are poor and uneducated.

In dictatorships/totalitarian regimes (i.e. North Korea) - I'd say "no". The people have no choice in who their leaders are. The only choice they make, I suppose, is the decision to NOT revolt.......but - especially in places like North Korea where the military is so strong - such revolt equates to suicide.
In democracies - then "yes" - people can vote or not vote if they choose. If the citizenry is apathetic & doesn't utilize their right to vote - then it seems that their complaints should fall on deaf ears when they wake up one day and find that neoConservative imperialist warmongerers run the country....oh....wait.....

If the people follow their leader without question, than they deserve that leader. For example if the leader is evil and the people still follow him/her than they would deserve whatever that leader throws at them. All it takes is a revolt or civil war to give people power, or life they choose to live. Since leaders started out as the people , they should realize by the time their in power to secure their peoples needs. If that person became in power and didn't secure his/her people's needs. Than thats when the people have to decide for themselves what should be done. I mean if you look at the United States. Great nation, very powerful, but at times it seems we get involved in conflicts that are unessessary, though it only seems. I will not judge the United States involvement in Iraq for I have yet to learn and besides, you never know what can happen. I believe life/history taught us that many times, but just to look back when saddam Hussein was in power. Do you think it was a good idea for the United States to take him out of power?, did his people deserve what he did to them, how he ruled him. Do the Iraqi people deserve the United States watching over their shoulders, to be forced to mimic our type of government? Though the soldiers shouldn't be blamed for the whole liberating Iraq deal. Soldiers exist to protect their country and to destroy the enemy their government sent them to kill. Liberating a nation should be a job for the UN, but how to liberate the nation should be up to the Iraqi government.

Germany didn't deserve Hitler, and neither did the rest of the human race. Nations with wounded egos often are easily conned by false prophets and opportunists promising a return of their glory days. The misery those inividuals inflict and inspire goes far beyond what anyone could perceive as warranted. Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Bush, Hussein, Khomeini, and many more said they knew the way to put their people back on the right path, and so many suffered because of their policies.

Not always.... look at Cuba. Fidel has been in power so long there. Take a child born in Cube in the late 60's. Poor. They have grown up with this life so long they don't know there is a different one. What chance has this person had to change things?

I don't think anyone deserves a Kim Jong Ill or Fidel Castro. They have turned their countries into crap holes, and made sure that there is no way to get rid of themselves.

Yes. A people must either rise up against a person who wishes to rule them or submit to the tyranny. It is simple as this.
