cells divide to reproduce. If cells didn't reproduce, then cells would just die and not be replaced, also, if an organism's cells didn't divide, it would never grow.

cells divide because once they get so big they have to split in order to keep the balance of the mass and area of the spot they are occupying in balance

no cell division = no life.
cells die, and so if cells don't divide, eventually all the organisms will run out of cells. and die.
