I think that you are mixing up two different shows...

as has been mentioned above the show on the moon was 'Space 1999' set on 'Moonbase Alpha'.

The one with the 'cops' was "Space Precinct" in which a cop from earth was sequestered to work in the police department on 'Altar'.

Both shows were from the creative brains of the 'Gerry Anderson' organisation.

Lots of white suits and weirdness, naturally for this period's sci fi.

Space Precinct, was also a Gerry Anderson show , but it was set in an imaginary solar system on a planet called Altar, and was not set on the moon.

I remember seeing re-runs of Space:1999 by Gerry Anderson.
It was about Moon Base Alpha and the moon had been blasted out of orbit by a massive nuclear explosion.
