How do you get birds and hamsters in sims 2 pets i went to the pet shop and you could only playwith them. =( any actual information would be nice THANKS!

First off, they are no hamsters. There are "womrats" which are guinea pigs, pretty much.
To get a womrat or bird you must go into Buy mode - miscellaneous - pets. There you will be able to purchase the cage for a womrat or aviary for birds. Once you buy and place the cage on the lot go back into "play mode" and have a sim go over to it. Click on the cage and there will be the option to "stock cage".
Presto! You now have the pets you want!!

I am not sure... I have never tried this but you might be able to get them by calling the pet adoption center.

you need to make sure you have space in your family. if you dont it wont let you buy the pet then click on the pet and press buy
at least thats how you do it in sims1
