mating call? for a chinchilla?

one day i woke up at night and my chincilla puffed up and made a whisteling sund was he looking for a mate?

i used to have a chinchilla and he did that when he wanted attention or he would make an almost grinding noise if he was mad. If you go online and type chinchilla sounds you hear them and they tell you what they mean.
