They were both prolific speakers and ministers.

Martin Luther King Jr. was always against violence, throughout his entire ministry. He always stood his ground, and he stood out because even though he may have been physically attacked, he never reacted with violence. Martin Luther King Jr. followed the Christian faith.

Malcolm X was a Muslim, and believed in Muslim principles. His line was "By any Means Necessary". He believed in fighthing back physically. Although later in life he visited Jerusalem, and met other Muslims. He changed his views, and became nonviolent.

In a very loose sense, Malcolm X advocated the use of force (think "By any means necessary!"), and Martin Luther King Jr. was a peaceful demonstrator, that advocated turning the other cheek.

There is a reason why schools today, relatively speaking, teach so much about MLK and so little about Malcolm X and why MLK has a holiday and X does not.

MLK was a christian who preached integration, turning the other cheek, and loving your oppressor. White leaders paid and subsidized MLK to teach African Americans to be defenseless against one of the most cruel groups of people the world has ever known. He was the perfect ***** "leader" for white people to stand behind because he wouldn t fight back against the white mans violent, oppressive attacks on black people (non-whites). He is thought by some to be a 20th century Uncle Tom.

Malcolm X was a Muslim and did not preach a doctrine of violence. He saw that black people (non-whites) had been the victims of violence at the hands of white people for over 400 years. He was taught by Elijah Muhammad that just like all other groups of people, who have god given, natural rights to defending themselves, African American people had the right to defend themselves also. He was not advocating violence, but telling people to defend themselves against violent people. He could not be swayed or bought for any amount of money. I believe he did more to advance black people and instill an idea of self-love for them than any other leader.

There were many, but the most important is that Malcolm X was willing to use violence (or threaten to use violence) to gain equality for black people, while King stuck to non-violence.

At the risk of being offensive to some people, Malcom X was, by
todays standards, a terrorist.

Marten Luthor King Jr on the other hand was a visionary
A human being with a Dream of unity, justice and peace for all.

I believe most people have lost sight of that dream.
