Did you lose weight when you were pregnant because you changed your eating habits or started exercising daily?

I plan to change my diet to be very healthy and walk daily once I am pregnant, I was wondering if I should expect a weight loss.

I lost weight because:

1) I ate better
2) I ate small meals more often which always causes me to loose weight but is hard to find time for when you are working and not pregnant
3) My metabolism shot through the roof (I could tell, and my temp went from 97.4 when not pregnant to 98.9 while pregnant)
4) I didn't eat any junk.

If you eat a healthy, well balanced diet (not diet as in weight loss but diet as in what you eat) with about 300 more calories do not pay any attention to the scale (But I wouldn't count your calories). You and your baby will be healthy (I ended pregnancy 30lbs less than I started --the day after I gave birth to an 8lbs 2oz baby).

Saying you must gain weight is like saying if you eat nothing but burgers and fries it is healthy for your baby. It is about eating well and enough for both you and your baby to thrive. Trust me, eat well and as long as you feel healthy and energitic you and your baby will be FINE, your body will tell you if you are not eating right if you listen.

The simple answer is that the best time to lose weight and start a healthy diet is before you are pregnant, and not after.

Unfortunately, after you are pregnant, it is pretty much out of your control - genetics kick in to determine whether your metabolism goes up, and by how much, whether you get morning sickness early on, and how severe, and most importantly, how often and how much food your body demands. A good predictor for how your body will behave during your pregnancy is how your mother's behaved during hers.

Personally, although I am keeping a balanced diet of healthy foods, I have gained weight slightly faster than recommended - largely because I get very hungry, very often, and feel faint and weak if I don't eat. I see that other people who have responded report the opposite - it's hard to know where you will fall.

Either way, don't worry about your weight too much once the pregnancy happens - there's plenty of time to take care of that part afterwards (and in your case - before!) :)

Losing weight while pregnant is a terrible idea if you do it on purpose. I know a lot of women do in their first trimester because they barf every few hours. But you need nutrients for that baby to grow. You can exercise, just with moderation-like walking for 30 minutes, low impact stuff. Wait to lose weight after the baby is born, I swear once that kid is active and getting into everything you'll drop a jean size :)

Changing your habits to healthy ones is great, but do NOT expect to lose weight unless you get atrocious morning sickness. If you exercise-and if your doc says it's okay, go for it- eat enough additional calories to compensate for it. Recommended weight gain is 30 pounds for an average woman and goes up or down only 5 pounds if you're under- or overweight.

Whatever you do while pregnant to be healthy is great but I wouldn't focus on losing weight while pregnant. It is a time to eat well and you don't have to gain an excessive amount of weight but actively trying to keep the weight off could hurt the baby. (unless your doctor has recommended this.) A healthy baby is more improtant than a few poinds.

It's not a good idea to try to lose weight during pregnancy. To have a healthy baby a woman is expected to gain between 20 and 30 pounds during pregnancy. It's a gradual process, with the bulk of the weight being gained in the third trimester.

It's not a good idea to go on a strict diet when pregnant because your baby needs food as well as you. Stay with a sensible balanced diet without anything too fatty and lots of fruits. You can do nice aerobic exercises to keep fit and keep the weight in control, but starving yourself could be dangerous for you and baby.

If you are eating healthy, exercising, and drinking plenty of water it's perfectly fine for you to lose weight while you're pregnant. If you lose too much or your doctor is concerned about anything they will let you know, thats why they weigh you at you appointments. For some women it's even reccomended that you lose some weight.

You should begin a healthy diet and excercise program BEFORE you get pregnant. It's much better for you and the baby that you are as healthy as possible prior to pregnancy. Walking is safe during pregnancy but starting an exercise program while pregnant is something you must be careful of because you do not want to push yourself too hard.
