while wearing heels one night. The toenail on the right looks black and appears as if it may fall off. Will it ever grow back? Should I remove the toenail?

The toenail appears black because the underlying tissue has bled, and you're seeing the trapped/dried blood. Usually this will cause the toenail to fall off. However, it will grow back, so don't worry about it if it comes off. If the toenail is loose enough for you to remove it without pain, then you can do so; you may want to keep a bandaid or other protection over the area that the toenail would normally cover until it grows back, which may take some time. Since that area *won't* be protected as it is by your toenail, it's best not to wear heels for a while, both to help prevent injury, and to keep excess pressure on the toe from causing the toenail to grow back in excessively thick or deformed from pressure on the cuticle.

You probably should NOT remove the toenails yourself as exposing flesh/tissues to all the microbes on your hands/in the air/everywhere might lead to a serious infection.

If the toe nail eventually falls off, it will grow back, but it probably will not look the same as your old toe nails (the surface will not be as smotth and stuff)...

In any case, it's probably the best idea to go to the doctors and have them take care of it for you.

Twice now I have accidentally ripped off toe nails and each time they have grown back. It does take a while but it will happen.
The first time the nail actually came right off. The second time
the nail was still attached in one place and I figured it would fall off when it was ready. It took about two weeks and I just happened to notice when I got out of the shower that it was gone.
I put peroxide on my toes every day and a Band-aid until the skin healed.

Well I had a plate drop on my big toe a few years back, It turned black (it's the blood) and eventually fell off, but it grew back within a few weeks, I didn't go to the doctors.... It's your choice if you want to go to the doctors but you have nothing to worry about it, your toenail is going through the healing process..

It will grow back. Keep an eye on it in case it gets infected. Otherwise, you'll be fine and will have a toenail again in time for summer.

It will regrow if you take it off or if it just falls off. I'm not sure what you should do, but maybe a doctor is best to consult.
