Use soft water it doesn't spot and put deposits into your paint as much as hard water does.

Soft water wont leave residues and end up as spots.

Hard water will leave the elements that make it hard on your car, and eventually mess up the surface of the paint. In the long run it will loose it's shine and eventually oxidize.

Theres a fancy car wash kit out there with a water filter in the nozzle handle, which fitlers the water from your hose as you spray your car. Works just like one of them filtering water pitchers you get for drinking water. I don't use those things but have seen the results. It is rather impressive how it works, and the water sheets right off when you rinse, leaving very few in any spots.

It is always better to wash your car with soft water so you don't get the hard water spots on it.

it's better to wash ANYTHING with soft water than with hard water. Hard water cuts down the effectiveness of the soap, and it leaves mineral residue. What's the benefit of using water with a lot of plastery gunk dissolved in it?

Definitely soft water, hard water causes water spots if not dried all the way.

Soft water will get your car cleaner. Soap -- no matter what kind you use -- will work better in soft water than in hard.

Soft, most definitely, prevents hard water spots

soft, because if you use hard water, and there is a chip on your car, like the paint is chipping a little bit, then the hard water will make it even worse.
