I'm having a fright movie weekend this weekend with my girlfriends and we need some suggestions. We want truly terrifying, edge of your seat movies, nothing gory and pointless like Saw. We want to be horrified and scarred (not just scared but scarred) for weeks to come :)

Wow, what a great idea for a fright fest- sounds like fun! Last time I had one, I broke out the popcorn and made sure I had loads of soda. Anyway, in my opinion and based on the criteria you stated ( nothing gory but terrifying ) here are some that may have you interested- up to you what you wish to decide to go with.

1. Invasion of the body snatchers- both versions are good.
2. Peeping Tom- that'll scare the crap out of anyone, no matter what your age group is.
3. Wait until Dark- as good as horror gets without being too sick.
4. The wicker man- the original, not the remake.
5. Willard- the original with Ernest Borgnine; it's a bit slow but effectively creepy.
6. House of Wax- the original with Vincent Price.
7. Pit and the Pendulum- another Vincent Price flick, great setting, sound and action, considering it was made in 1961.

I love horror movies! I would probably go for Hostel and Wolf Creek - although they're abit gory they're quite psychologically creepy. The Directors Cut version of the Exorcist (where she does the 'spider walk' - only a few extra minutes of footage but make it more scary in my opinion) The remake of the Hills Have Eyes is really good - quite disturbing in places. Whoever recommended Audition - that's the cream of the crop - truly freaky if you make it to the end!
Happy horror night!

The omen/ remake. The omen/ old one. It's not gory at all . But when I watched it. I had to sleep with the lights on for a month. And I have over 750 movies and none ever scared me. And I'm hard to scare. And all the exorise movies. The shinning, red rose, pet cememtary.

The original Exorcist, has to be the craziest, most amazing movie, with no other movie will you get the same effect after you see it. And in the history of movies, has no other movie made more people afraid and faint during the openings and during the time it has been out, so I hope you enjoy it if you choose it. Good Luck!!! and Have Fun!!

The Shining is one of the scariest movies EVER, but I can't remember how gory it was. You might want to try Burnt Offers, that was a bit scary for it's day, but it's older so it might seem lame now. Exorcist was scary of course. Carrie was really good too!

Have you seen 'The Exorcist'? If you have, sorry for being boring. If not, it's a great shout. It's absolutely shocking. A slow starter but evench, horrifying!! On a lighter note, 'Evil Dead II', part comedy (only undertones) and part nightmarish. A true horror classic.

The Changeling...creepy ghost child
Gothika...people laugh that this movie scares me...but it terrifies me

Good scary movies are hard to find!

Do not watch Wolf Creek as someone suggested---incredibly gory and pointless...I stopped watching it half way through because it made me sick.
