Every retrospective on Las Vegas I have seen has someone talking about the importance of booking Sinatra (and other acts well) because they "brought in the high rollers." How did that work. Maybe I have seen to many movies where they are always comping tickets, but I thought those shows were free. Was it the ticket price that winnowed out the average Joe, and attracted people with money. Or did Frank Sinatra, and others have a "high roller following'?

Simple... everyone wanted to see the stars up close and personal. so they had to come to begas for that.

many of the stars would gamble and play in the pool before or after their show. or Visit other shows.

The mob got Sinatra to bring his pals here. Dont ask how, not enough room here. But once they were here, the house (mob) gave them money to gamble with. Credit... of course they gambled it away the first night. So the house would say "Not A Problem... here is another $50,000 to gamble with, but only if you promise to play three shows next month. ok??"

And they had to play or become a hole in the desert... So then that star would get his friends and family out... and repeat the cycle.

The friends of Sinatra were by definition High Rollers - Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Telly Savalas, you name them he was friends with them. These were people with money to burn a Vegas was the place to burn it. If you could work so it was a tax write off too all the better. Hope this helps!
