I've been dancing for 10 years and some people I know don't consider it a sport but I do. I want to know what other people think?

My answer is that it shouldn't matter. If you love it, then who cares? No one will dispute the skill and dedication that goes into the craft of dancing, so you don't need a title to validate what you love.

But if you wanna get technical. . .
Honestly, It all depends on your definition of "sport." Dancing allows for competition and involves physical activity and talent so, in by this definition it IS a sport. It also is in the Olympics, which doesn't hurt its claim to Sporthood.

But some have a more philosophical definition. One that involves objective point systems instead of judges, opponents that affect each other's outcome (defense), and so on. Obviously, dancing wouldn't be a sport by this definition; but neither would golf, track & field or car racing.

I consider dancing a beautiful and graceful sport. I danced for many years, especially ballet and at one point in my life it was my life. However, I became ill with an ED and for my sake am no longer allowed to dance.

Just Because it requires muscles, sweat and talent doesn't mean its a sport. Hell Raising tobacco takes muscles, sweat, and the know how... Dance is a competition, there is a difference between competition and a sport.

Yes, I do. I, too, have been dancing for many years. It takes a lot of endurance, good muscles, and hopefully a heart for the music....just as any sport requires endurance, good muscles, and a love for the game!

I think it depends on the type of dancing. I do hip-hop and contortion. I believe dancing in general is a sport though.

ABSOFRICKENLUTELY!! Why do you think DANCING WITH THE STARS is so popular?!?! Gooooo Emmett!!!! ;-)

My daughter is a cheerleader (senior year) and trust me that's a sport.

I admire you. I've been blessed with two left feet. GOOD FOR YOU! I bet you dance beautifully!

Dancing, just like cheering, IS SO A SPORT! Everyone who disagrees.... well, just take them with you when you practice and they'll quickly acquiesce, Honey.
