Demand (nicely) that the maintenance snake your drain and check your neighbor's apartments as well. The plumbing in one unit can effect surrounding apartments, so if your neighbor's drain is clogged, it might be affecting your's as well.

Try this. Run the dishwasher on the shortest cycle with the soap dispenser filled with baking soda and a cup of white vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher. This will not only clean the inside of your dishwasher, but it will also clear the line between your dishwasher and disposal. Sometimes grease build up on the line and food particles stick to it. The hot water and rush of water from the washer "blows" those particles into the disposal. Also, run your disposal with hot water prior to running the dishwasher to clear any particles of food that may either be left in the bottom of the disposal or the drain line.
Finally, take the bottom rack out of the dishwasher and check the filter on the bottom. Food particles often get stuck in it, too. On my home dishwasher, I have to loosen a couple of screws to pull it out and clean both sides. In my rentals, the filter snaps in.
I would be a little upset with tenants putting draino in the disposal. When they have done it in the past, I've had to replace the entire disposal. Draino is so strong that it corrodes and "eats" up some of the parts on cheezy disposals.

yes Drano will help but get the powdered or grain type Drano and follow the directions on the back cause its different from the liquid kind. but don't put it in the garbage disposal side. after let the Drano set for about 30 min. run very hot water through it, I mean really hot water like boil it on the stove then run garbage disposal with hot water too. and if that's not the problem, your dishwasher drain might be attached pointing in the wrong direction, it might be pointing up towards the sink drain, should be facing down so it will force water and garbage to the swearer not in your sink.

It sounds like the substantial sewer stack is plugged, to boot with the aid of fact the drain isn't sufficiently vast for the addition of the dishwasher to the circuit. Why the water is backing up from the lavatory must be greater desirable information of the blockage. Open the seize on the stack, and placed a snake down it, If that doesn't fix it, you had greater desirable call in a professional.

Not only could you have an obstruction in your drain-line from your sink to the house main, you may have a vent obstruction not allowing that drain branch to breath easily. Be sure to check them all for bird nests, or even dead squirrels. Also. check what side of the sink trap the dishwasher tap is on. it needs to be in your disposal, or after before the trap. If it is after the trap it can push out the water in the trap causing the bad smell (sewer) or just suck out the water in the trap, causing the same affect. Good luck

Pull the p-trap off under the sink and see if there is a clog. The trap could have a clog or it could be further down the line. Get a drain snake and run it from the trap down.

Sounds like you have a clogged or slow running drain. Drano might be a good first step. Then I would run a snake (drain cleaning tool) down and see if there is a massive hairball or clog.

The discharge from the dishwasher is discharging water faster than your drain can handle. You may be able to help it by running some drain cleaner down the drain. That should open it up more so the drain will handle the water that is discharged from the dishwasher.
