Heavens, no! Once you've earned your degree, it's yours. Whether or not you're certified has no bearing on your degree.
And CPA is not the only certification. There's the CMA, CFM, CIA, and CFP just to name a few.
Don't let the CPA exam be your only direction.

No... once you earn the degree, you have a degree. However, in order to do certain kinds of work, you must also be licensed as a CPA, which requires passing the exam.
You can retake the exam. Some people take it several times before passing.
