Pros --
1. cheaper bill
2. Yourr account is accessible online. You can click to add HBO, for instance, and as soon as you click on it, the station come on.
3. They add channels for special events.
For instance, for the U.S. Open(tennis) they added 7 channels, and I was able to see all the action on all of the courts at the Open for 12 hours a day! I didn't even have to deal with Espn's editing.
4. When you order Pay Per View, you see the movie for the next 12 hours on two or three channels.
5. If you want to catch a show, you can put a reminder on your tv, and it turns to the channel. For instance, I have mine set for every mon-fri to turn to channel 9 at 12:30 so i can watch the young and the restless. I never miss a show now!
6. Unlike comcast, all the stations are bunched together according to type. for instance. all the music channels are from 320 to 340. So you find one channel, you find al of them.
7. They come to install the dish for you, and if you move, they'll come and remove it and install it in your new residence for free.
8. Go to the website directtv.com. You may even be able to get the entire system and the installation for free. they usually have that deal going. and they may throw in a DVR machine, too!
The only Con is that SOMETIMES when it rains the picture goes out for a few minutes. In the past year, I would say the picture was interrupted maybe 3 times, but these were during severe storms. But my mom has Comcast and she can't even see the channels she's paying for, and her bill is twice what mine is.
I'm a big Direct Tv supporter. I think everyone should get it!
It's a win-win situation! You're happier, the air smells better, etc. So get it!
Another Pro is you can get HBO for two days and then go online and cancel it, and they just prorate the bill for you!

DishNetwork has better prices than Direct TV. And when my parents had Direct TV, it sucked every time it was windy or rainy. Maybe they have upgraded systems since then (4 years ago) but my Dishnetwork never does that!!
Also, mine's cheaper even with my two room DVR system with 99 hours of storage for my recorded favorites.

I personally had service with DirecTV for four years and had absolutely no issues with them. The programming is comparable to any of the lineups provided by cable and in my experience there was not one instance of service interruption. Considering the fact that all of the signals travel by satellite this is significant since weather can cause problems even with cable. The only cons that I could possibly note is add-ons such as HBO, Showtime, etc. can significantly increase your monthly subscription charges. The other is if you plan to hook the service up to more than one television, there is a fee for each additional box.

I have direct tv and am happy with it. When there is a bad storm, you can sometimes lose reception, but it always comes back. Sometimes it freezez up too, but I just have to reset it and all is fine. This doesn't happen often, so I feel it is worth it!
