I love anime and Japanese movies! Akira is one of the classics and Ghost in the Shell is good. If you want more extreme go for Legend of the Overfiend (its a bit mental but a classic).
Check out Appleseed too, http://www.appleseedthemovie.com/, that's worth a watch.
I personally like some of the more extreme Japanese movies (not necessarily animated). One of my favourite directors is Takashi Miike - if you've got a strong stomach check out Ichi the Killer (there's an animated version too) and Audition. Happy viewing!

There's a computer animated movie "final fantasy 7" that just recently came out... it's loosely based on the game..that would be all but i would also suggest Ghost In The Shell..there's an original and the newer movie further along in the story.Stand alone Complex.i believe it's called.....both good anime.

Howl's Moving Castle is a fantasy novel for teens by British author Diana Wynne Jones, first published in 1986. It was adapted in 2004 as an animated film by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.
A love story between an 18-year-old girl named Sofî, cursed by a witch into an old woman's body, and a magician named Hauru. Under the curse, Sofî sets out to seek her fortune, which takes her to Hauru's strange moving castle. In the castle, Sophie meets Hauru's fire demon, named Karishifâ. Seeing that she is under a curse, the demon makes a deal with Sophie--if she breaks the contract he is under with Hauru, then Karushifâ will lift the curse that Sophie is under, and she will return to her 18-year-old shape.
