the values of a nation are defined by individual concerns of citizens, if enough have a great interest and form a political group, they push their ideals into the political process...also thru voting for candidates that reflect their values.

You are making it too difficult. They had to defend their own national values vs the values of the King of England. Remember, the Revolutionary War was fought by British subjects. There were also Loyalists, who were, as their name suggests, loyal to the Crown of England.
When this new country emerged, these groups of Americans had to be brought together. Without unity, this new country would fail. A house divided cannot stand as the Bible says.
The Declaration of Independence and the Consitution were pivotal in establishing the new government and how this new nation would move forward. It set national values to be followed by the individual states.
I'm going to stop there. Think it through.... what it meant to a new nation.
Oh... and it was not a majority of the people against England as many people suppose. It was actually a small minority of leaders, especially at first. Most people were either neutral or loyal to England. Establishing a new nation was not an easy task.

This is not an easy question. I believe they are probing you to see if you can apply facts (taxation, enlisting colonists to form militias, lack of protection on the frontiers, autonomy) of the colonies and how those issues brought rise to the writing of the declaraion of independence and the bill of rights.
And through the years key people have redefined those values (Martin Luther King, Eleanor Roosevelt, etc).
Finally, you should decide why it was important, in this case compare what you know of European values to the US values. Such as representative government versus monarchy.
I hope I understood your assignment and provided some insite. If all else fails, nothing wrong with asking the teacher for some guidance.

...hint...The British are coming
5. Can you next time and each time....look inside yourself...now what makes you think you're American...yes what values do you have because you are part of this great nation....and we are only great if you are...thinking and learning....which you are.
6. What did we do....we for starters we had to print our own money based.....on the gold standard....ever heard of Ft. Knox?
7. Again, especially today.....every country must have a government.....national value ....money...that's traded internationally.......and we did that starting in the 1700's.
